Biryani is a
traditional South Asian dish that typically consists of meat or vegetables
cooked with rice and a blend of spices. Here is a basic recipe for Chicken
Biryani:
Ingredients:
- 1 lb boneless chicken, cut into small pieces
- 2 cups basmati rice
- 3 cups chicken broth or water
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 tomatoes, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 inch ginger, minced
- 2 green chilies, minced
- 1/2 cup yogurt
- 1/4 cup ghee or oil
- 2 tsp cumin powder
- 2 tsp coriander powder
- 1 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tsp red chili powder
- Salt to taste
- 1/4 cup chopped cilantro for garnish
Instructions:
1. In a pot, bring chicken broth or water to a boil, add rice and a pinch of salt. Cook for 18 minutes on medium-low heat or until the rice is cooked.
2. In a pan, heat ghee or oil and add cumin seeds. Once they start sizzling, add chopped onions, and sauté until they turn golden brown.
3. Add ginger and garlic, sauté for a minute. Add chopped tomatoes and cook until soft.
4. Add cumin powder, coriander powder, turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt to taste. Cook for 2-3 minutes.
5. Add chicken and cook until it is tender and cooked through.
6. Add yogurt and mix well. Cook for another 2-3 minutes.
7. In a pot or serving dish, layer the cooked rice and chicken mixture.
8. Cover and cook on low heat for 10-15 minutes or until the flavors are well combined.
9. Garnish with chopped cilantro and serve hot with raita or chutney.
